Program Overview

This program will review foundational models of the demand for health and medical care and how the demand for medical care is affected by health insurance. The RAND health insurance experiment will be discussed also with more recent empirical studies. The evolution of health care provider and insurance markets in the United States will be discussed, focusing on how changes in insurance payment mechanisms and consolidation in both provider and insurer markets have affected access to care and health care costs.
