" I met people from Lehigh that I can say will definitely be lifelong friends."
What are your career aspirations?
"To be an executive at a Private Equity firm, specializing in investing/acquiring innovative technology startups."
Do you have a job if you are a senior, or an internship if you are a junior? If so, where?
"KPMG, LLP, interned in Accounting Methods and Credit Services group. I worked to qualify projects for Research and Development tax credits, as well as Domestic Production Deductions. The role was more of a consulting role, with heavy client facing."
How well do you think the Lehigh business curriculum prepared you for success in getting a job or internship?
"Lehigh’s education definitely prepared me for the interviewing process, and set me up for success during the internship. Lehigh’s courses are structured so that homework is assigned before the subject is taught. This builds problem solving skills and reinforces the subject material taught to students, so that they have a better understanding of the material at hand. Because of this style of learning, I feel as though I can pick up on things much quicker than other potential candidates, and therefore can become a much more valuable asset to a firm."
Have you found the curriculum to be flexible in allowing you to pursue diverse interests in addition to your business interests?
"Lehigh’s curriculum is extremely flexible for pursuing diverse interests. Coming into Lehigh as a freshman, I wanted a program that integrated both engineering and business into one degree. I chose the Computer Science and Business program, and I haven’t looked back since. The CSB program is an excellent option for mixing both fields, as they are increasingly becoming more and more blended in today’s world. Additionally, for 7 more classes, I have added an Accounting degree to the CSB degree, which allows me to further differentiate myself by heavily specializing in both areas."
What experiences outside of your business study, do you credit for some of your success?
"The work experience that I gained over the summer has proven invaluable for furthering my career. I was exposed to Fortune 500 clients, and worked side by side with Senior Associates and Managers to complete projects with implications that could change the firm’s stance on optimizing tax efficiency. Lehigh’s education laid a basic framework of knowledge and understanding, but the real world experience in the field truly helped me further my potential future career with the firm."
Have you found someone within the CBE to be particularly helpful as you make important decisions?
"My advisor (Professor James Hall) helped me make an important decision on acquiring the double major for Accounting/CSB. He teaches CSB 311, the computer science equivalent of Accounting Information Systems, and in the class invited PwC to speak to use about using SAP and other important technologies in the field. Through this, I learned more about the 'Big 4' and the kind of work they do, and it eventually led me to applying for a job with KPMG. Career Services has been helpful with my job search, especially with applications on LUCIE. LUCIE makes searching for and applying to jobs much easier, as the applications are sent directly to the campus recruiter rather than being screen through the company’s website. This gives Lehigh students an advantage over others applying for the same job."
Do you see yourself as part of a community that’s is instrumental to success now and beyond Lehigh?
"Absolutely. The relationships I have made here with friends and alumni will last far beyond my graduation. I plan on returning to Lehigh in the future for Alumni events and visiting old professors, as well as hopefully recruit future Lehigh students to work for my future employer."
Are you proud to say that you are from Lehigh? If so, “why?”
"I am proud to be a Lehigh student. There’s a certain level of expectation involved with being a graduate in the workplace, as I experienced over the summer when I mentioned where I went to school. This is something that I welcome with open arms, as Lehigh prepares its students very well for the workplace and has a great alumni network to get you to the next step in your career. I met people from Lehigh that I can say will definitely be lifelong friends."
